design
Empowering our clients to make good, data-driven decisions means that predictive power and deep insight are indispensable. Essentially, we look at research as a cyclical process: in the end design is validated by analytical outcomes. Right from the start the strategic objectives of our clients dictate our designs. We listen, we innovate, we suggest, we formulate. Where small or hard-to-reach populations matter smart designs can overcome obstacles to accessibility. Where sensitive questions require answers designs need to provide confidentiality and anonymity. If the results require statistical modelling the design-phase sets up the analytical framework for maximum data exploitation further down the road. From multi-stage random probability sampling for media surveys, to identifying purchase deciders for in-depth interviewing, to selecting the caregivers of under 5-year olds, our methodological toolbox is comprehensive. The same is true for instrument design. Most of all, designs invariably require a sensible balance of scientific rigour and real-world-research.

implementation
Implementation means putting client strategic objectives into reality. Without exception, all members of the implementation team need to fully internalise client objectives together with the corresponding methodology and the latest techniques. We invest heavily in training because there is no other way to achieving outcomes clients can trust. If everyone understands all aspects of the project, everyone works to the same goals. We do not work with field-teams who have no formal theoretical training in methods. Neither will we engage enumerators who have not been vetted through on-the-job-training in the actual research environment. All team members also understand the overall planning, the logistics and the documentation that goes with implementation. They systematically take notes during implementation to feed context and autheniticity into the analysis. The quest for quality is reflected in our pay structures. We do not pay salaries to enumerators. Instead we pay a generous fee per completed assignment (interview, observation, etc.) but only for flawless work. We scrap output with any errors and repeat. We will always train a quality control crew that will operate totally independently and is remunerated on the basis of the errors they detect. We keep our clients on top of things by reporting regularly throughout implementation. This way our clients stay in control.

analysis
Irrespective of positive or negative: analysis means connecting and presenting facts. Our analyses are lucid, structured, unambiguous: clear text, clear graphics, clear presentations. We excel at transforming authentic, rich data into analytical narratives that make sense. Before any analysis we will systematise all raw output, especially in multi-component assignments and consult with our clients regarding desired outcomes. Where required we use AI for qualitative data and multi-variate statistical modelling for quantitative output but will always follow the principle “minds, not machines”. Analysis needs to meet the objectives that were identified in the design. Often the findings allow the analysis to go beyond the original remit, especially where variables are related or hermeneutic elements are connected. We will compile 200+ page reports as well as one-page executive summaries for busy client strategists that may sum up multi-component assignments: across several months or years or multiple geographies. Routinely, we present data&analysis in-house and guide our clients through the outcomes and the implications for their strategic imperatives. Our implementation teams brig the data to life. Prior to the interpretation of the data we systematically debrief teams for additional clues and context. Frequently a member of the implementation crew attends client presentations to add on-the-ground flavour and respond to client questions.
